Linguistics in Cologne is one of the major players in the field of Language Documentation, creating and maintaining corpora for many small and often endangered languages from all around the world, including languages from West and East Africa, South America, insular Southeast Asia and the Papua region. Cologne's Data Center for the Humanities (DCH) has taken on stewardship for many of these corpora and datasets, thus ensuring the long-term preservation of these resources.
