Cologne Center of Language Sciences (CCLS)

With upwards of 25 professorships, the Language Sciences constitute one of the major research and teaching areas in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and there exists both cross-disciplinary collaboration within the faculty as well as interfaculty cooperation with the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine. Pivotal to this collaboration is the Cologne Center of Language Sciences (CCLS), which

  • coordinates the joint activities of all language-related disciplines, facilitates research, communication and collaboration,
  • hosts the biannual conference LingCologne,
  • coordinates research-oriented teaching within the cross-disciplinary and cross-faculty MA program Linguistics and PhD programs and supports Early Career Researchers at all stages of qualification,
  • liaises with the university- and faculty-wide support infrastructure,
  • and provides general administrative and organizational support.

CRC 1252 Prominence in Language

The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC 1252) Prominence in Language unites more than sixty researchers within an interdisciplinary team with the goal of providing a comprehensive characterization of prominence in language.

Center for Language, Information and Philosophy (CLIP)

The Center for Language, Information and Philosophy (CLIP) provides a framework for strengthening and intensifying collaboration in the fields of linguistics, formal semantics and pragmatics, as well as logic and analytic philosophy of language.

Linguistics within the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities

Through the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities, we offer two language-related classes for doctoral candidates: Language, Discourse, and Culture (Class 2), and Prominence in Language (Class 8). At the level of Master’s students, the language-related disciplines contribute to the interdisciplinary a.r.t.e.s. Research Master. And at the level of postdoctoral researchers, we are engaged in the interdisciplinary Research Lab.
